For years Robert Gutwa and his team in Kisii, Kenya, dreamt of using this donated property to serve their local community. In 2019 that became a reality when buildings were added and it was registered as a community based organization (CBO). But Robert always felt the dream would not be complete without a deep well (borehole) to provide clean water, especially as drought conditions continued from year to year. So it is with great joy that the GCC-K team can now announce that it has a solar powered borehole with water filtration! They continue to express their deep gratitude to D4G and a special donor for this amazing blessing.
The borehole will protect the community from water borne diseases and provide a safe water collection station. This will bless the many young girls whose job it was to trek long distances to rivers to collect water. A task which risked putting them in harms way from male preditors.
Providing life giving clean water to thousands will greatly increasing the reach and impact of GCC-K. The center was established in time to support the community during the pandemic and has played a pivotal role ever since. The hen farm provides eggs for those in need, the sewing enterprise sews washable feminine hygiene kits for school girls, and the liquid soap enterprise keeps families safe and free from harmful germs. The team is pleased to add clean water programs to their list of services in 2022.
As the drought continues in Kisii, the flow of water at the GCC-K has given the community something to celebrate.
