Meet Noami, a Dignity4Girls scholarship recipient, who just graduated from a two year program as a seamstress! Naomi is looking forward to joining the sewing enterprise at the Grace Community Center where she is eager to sew the washable feminine hygiene kits that made such a difference for her when she was a young adolescent girl.
She remembers vividly how helpless she first felt when her period began and her grades were slipping due to missed school days. Naomi’s mother, a widow, did not have the funds to pay for monthly pads. As a result, Naomi, like so many of her peers, remained home and missed an average of five school days a month.
Naomi also remembers the day, 4 years ago, when a deaconess first offered Naomi a free kit with washable feminine hygiene products (Days for Girls pattern), underwear, soap and a washcloth. Naomi, although shy and tentative when she first received it, soon realized what an incredible gift she had been given. It was the gift of education. She was once again filled with confidence as she knew this would allow her to focus on her studies and catch up with her classmates.
After working hard to complete primary school, Naomi was offered a D4G scholarship to pursue her interest in sewing. Now she sits behind her machine skillfully creating dresses and protective facemasks for herself and her family. She prays for a swift end to the Covid 19 and to join the dedicated sewist at the Grace community Center.
