Verah

A Story of Hope

Verah was in a tragic bus accident at the age of 18. After many surgeries, she was left with no right hand or arm and no fingers on her left hand.  This caused dependence on others for everything, including feeding herself. It was a sad and difficult time. Verah became depressed and lost hope in her dream of ever going to college and becoming a journalist.

Robert Gutwas was introduced to Verah and after meeting her and hearing her story he reached out to Dignity4Girls. With great joy D4G found a donor to cover the cost of a prosthetic for Verahs left hand, incorporating her existing thumb. With this prosthetic Verah could now pick items up, helping her regain her independance.  She also found renewed hope.  Verah became an inspiration to all who met her. She even spoke to the girls at the Grace Community Center camp.

Dignity4Girls also supplied Verah with a small business grant. It did not take her long to create a viable business of ordering produce online and delivering to local community members. As Verah's business increased, she was able to purchase herself a laptop.

The story of Verah's creativity and endurance during difficulties spread and in the fall 0f 2023 she was offered a full scholarship to attend a university - and major in journalism.  Dignity4Girls is proud of Verah and all that she has accomplished!

 A Thank you from Verah:

I hope this finds you in good health. It's my honour and pleasure to inform you that the small business I started has made my dream to come true. The profit that I raised helped  me to interact with friends and now have got admission of college to pursue Journalism course for three years.  I also bought a laptop which I'm pretty sure will play a big role in doing online business  and my studies as have only one finger, I have taken three days to write this appreciation letter to you.
